How Google’s AI mode can be followed in the Google Search Console (GSC)

The AI mode officially started to get out As a laboratory experiment On March 5, 2025, I received access the next day. To mention unnecessarily that I have received the AI mode since access. I will provide some screenshots in this post, but you can always check my X -Thread by preparing videos of the AI mode in action about a number of query types. See the thread below.

Since I have shared examples, I have received many questions about how the AI mode is pursued in the Google Search Console (GSC). From now on Google is not Follow the AI mode because it is in the beta and most people are not available. You confirmed this last week. But like AI overviews, I am sure that the AI mode in GSC is pursued after expanding the function (and the beta).

To put the least, the tracking will be interesting. AI mode initially offers a AI overview reaction, but with a turn. This is because users can continue the conversation with follow -up questions. So you may have a number of answers in AI mode, all with links and quotations.

In the following I will cover, as I think that the AI mode is tracked in GSC as soon as Google begins to fill the reporting with AI mode data. Note that I will update this post as soon as it happens to document how tracking actually works.

First, how KI overviews are reported in GSC:
AI overview data is currently in GSC, but good luck when searching for. I already “covered” this in my post on search engine -roundtable.The crazy adventure of persecution of AI overviews in the search console”. Unfortunately, Google does not offer specific reporting or filtering for AI overviews. The data is tracked, but they are mixed with standard search results data.

This is how GSC tracking is currently working for Aios. All lists in the AI overview take over the rank of the AIO block that is number 1. However, the lists must be scrolled in sight before an impression is technically seen (as the way in which carousel and other SERP functions are pursued and specified in GSC). It is worth noting that the nippets presented do not have specific reporting or filtering, but also accept position no. 1 in GSC (as long as they rank in the top position).

How the persecution and reporting of AI mode * can work in GSC:
The initial answer about the AI mode contains quotes and left. This should gain impressions immediately as long as they are visible on loads. For the initially invisible links or quotes, they gain an impression if they are displayed in the “All” button and then be uncovered in sight.) The position for all of these links is number 1 because they take over the rank of AI mode block.

And further lists will gain an impression as soon as the “Show all display” button clicks and the lists for the lists are scrolled up:

And here are the different options, such as obtaining impressions on mobile devices. Note how the carousel is displayed at the top, but only two entries get an impression on load:

If you then tap on a quote, a list will be started, which then gives an impression:

And then the lower button “All” starts a mobile SERP in which lists can win impressions (as soon as scrolls are put in the display). There is also a trigger at the top of the mobile answer that is favorites of the locations that are sources. This will trigger a serp of listings, which means that these lists obtain impressions.

And remember that all of these lists are position 1, based on the position of the AI mode block. When Google uses a similar tracking approach for AI overviews, it chooses a similar tracking approach:

If a user asks a follow-up question, Google can go into some instructions. You could treat this follow-up question as a fresh query and simply start with tracking impressions and positions from the front or treat the follow-up block as position two (since it is the second set of results).

I think Google will treat the follow-up question as Fresh search And the left gain an impression and a position like the starting block. This means that the position of all links in the follow-up response is also a position as long as they were scrolled off in sight.

And then additional follow-up questions would be treated as new search queries. Therefore, all of the links are rated No. 1 for the new query, which was asked in AI mode.

Unnecessary to mention that this can cause serious confusion for site owners, since GSC is combined via the standard search results, AI overviews and AI mode, but the position of the content ranking can vary in different search modes.

For example, a site in the standard search ranking could classify the No. 8, but is classified in 1st place in AI mode based on the AI response. Or it can be based on a follow -up request #1. Since Google probably does not break AI mode data via a filter or a specific report, this can lead to serious confusion because the site owners try to analyze GSC data.

More complex answers to AI mode enable more confusion:
As I already explained, I have greatly tested the AI mode since the end of last week. Overall, I was impressed by the answers from AI mode, but I also pointed out that I believe that the results would eventually have to be improved with pictures, video, local listings, etc. As soon as this happens, tracking becomes even more complex (and could lead to even more confusion).

For example, you have pictures ranking, videos ranking, local lists with website -Links -ranking and much more. I think they will also take number 1 in GSC because they will take over the position of the AI mode block. And if you then appear on follow-up questions, they will be number 1 again, but for the fresh question. Yes, confusing.

The filtering and reporting on AI mode could eliminate the confusion:
I have already treated this with snippets and AI overviews presented, but specific filtering or reporting can really help the side parts to clearly understand the owners when their websites are classified in certain SERP functions. And that would result in GSC reporting, which makes more sense. The combination of snippets, AI overviews and soon the AI mode in the same reporting without filtering will lead too much confusion for location owners.

Regardless of whether it is a simple filter for the appearance of seekers or a specific report such as discover or Google News, I hope Google will introduce something that brings a little more clarity to the search for console reporting.

For example, it would be astonishing to see something like this in the future. Filter by this search display would result in inquiries and target pages that are displayed in AI mode:

I will update this post again as soon as the AI mode is officially followed in GSC. Stay tuned.
