Many SEOs notice this Google has indicated less content since the end of May 2025.
I have access to a series of websites in GSC and thought it would be interesting to see which pattern I can find.
In most cases there is a decline in the indexed sides that begins on May 27, 2025. These are screenshots from my own website:
In most cases, you can see an increase in pages that are not indicated as crawling.
In most cases that I have looked at, this problem does not seem to have any affected clicks.
It should be noted that many of the websites in my GSC profiles have no problems with indexing and no increase in crawling, no indicated pages.
Which pages will be deexed?
After about 40 different websites, it seems that the pages that are deXed are those that Google would unlikely to search for people. In some cases they are old blog posts. In many cases, it is thin pages or pages that simply write off information that was written elsewhere on the web without adding anything of original value.
For my side I see many of my old episodes from me Newsletter were removed from the index. These are contributions from years ago.
Were also removed:
- Notes on Google help help from 2018
- A contribution about a “new” confusion of unnatural links message Google sent 12 years ago
- Some thin category pages that were not useful at all
Examples from other locations
Supplementary office – They went from 27,000 indexed pages to 15,000. Wow. Previously, they had 8000, not indicated pages. Now they have 15,000. Crawled, currently not indicated, shows many Legitimate product pages listed in this list. However, when I inspect these pages, Google tells me that they have them Are indicated. Could the reporting in this case be a mistake?
It should be noted that these pages have almost no original content. No reviews. Nothing owner. These products are sold on many websites. If I want to buy you in this specific business, you will continue to be indicated for “Store Name + Product”, but you are not classified for these products without your brand name.
Local service business – 20% of their pages were listed as no longer indicated. It seems to me that many of these pages are either written or are essentially rewriting things that others have written many times on the Internet. Many category pages were also removed. Again, if I search for these pages in the Google Index, I can find them. They do not seem to be of it, but do not manage.
These pages do not currently indicate the sporadic ranking contribution on May 27, although Google has listed in Crawled -. They had very few clicks for the pages I looked at.
Travel page: In this case, there were many blog posts in the crawling, currently not indicated list. In this case, these contributions were indeed really from what I can see.
Some of the pages were very old blog posts. Some have recently been last year, but I simply seemed to me in terms of content in terms of content, about which many times were written on the Internet. Google added the word “paraphrased” 22 times in the latest update of the quality rater guidelines. I think it is possible that this great de-indexing we see could be an attempt to reduce the amount of unoriginal content in the Google Index.
However, this site has no decline in clicks to your website.
Recipe: Many newer blog posts have been duck down, and in this case I verified that they were completely removed from the index. These articles contained a number of articles of the “Definition” type such as “What is the difference between X and Y” and many other simple answer questions that are easy for AI overviews or AI mode to answer. In this case, there seems to be a noticeable decline in clicks since May 27.
Lawyer page: Once again, several blog posts were deexed. Some were very thin case studies without interesting information, only vague text. Some were clearly written from SEO will, e.g. B. Contributions with vague tips on how to be a better driver or tips to prevent a truck accident. Again, these contributions essentially described what other websites said and had no uniquely interesting information.
How to check your pages
Go to the search console and click on pages. Click not indexed to deactivate them and only display indexed pages. Do you have an obvious decline from May 27th?
Next you will see whether you can see which bucket are on:
Most likely you can see them under “crawling, currently not indicated”. This means that Google crabs your site but decided to remove it from the index.
Please note that each website contains pages here. I’m not worried when I see paginated pages or /feed sites in this list, unless you are a Massive location with millions of pages that have to worry about the crawl budget. However, if you see pages that you have published with the intention of having them in the Google Index, this is a matter of concern.
Does this mean that your website is of low quality?
Pages crawled but not indicated potentially be a sign of low quality. The good news is that Google’s guide to their ranking systems Tell us that their systems are designed in such a way that they should work at work Side level. I think it is quite possible that you have simply found that these pages are very unlikely that you will get search visitors and therefore remove them from the index. However, you say that there are some local signals that you use. We do not know whether a large number of sides that crab but are not indexed contributes to a general location quality.
Here is what I think:
- If most pages in your crawling, currently not an indexed list of feed sites or paginated pages, I would not be too worried (unless you have millions of pages, in this case work can be carried out to improve the way Google crawls your website.)
- If most of these pages are old blog posts that were once valuable, but rarely are rarely visited today, I wouldn’t be worried either. I don’t think you have to remove old posts.
- There is a possibility that this is a mistake for some websites, since in some cases that are indexed as non -indexed crawling have actually been indicated.
- If a good number of these pages are pages that you mainly publish because of SEO, this is a wake -up call.
- Take a look at the sides that are crawled but not indicated. Do you have content that is really unique, original and revealing? Or do you just paraphrase information from the entire web? I think what we see today is only the beginning of Google that cleans up the web of this type of content.
How do you know if pages have been published for SEO? Ask yourself whether you would have published these pages, even if Google does not exist. Would you have bothered to publish them for your existing audience?
If this is the case, I would recommend taking into account a content check and improving content so that it is original, unique and insightful. This is the first thing that is listed in Google Documentation for creating helpful content. In addition, Google’s newly published documentation emphasizes the need Concentration on unique, valuable content for people.
Last thoughts
This was an interesting topic that I wanted to investigate, but this is by no means a comprehensive review of the problem in which websites reduce a reduction in the indexed pages.
In most cases in which I checked, there was no reduction in clicks. It seems that Google simply removed pages that would rarely be selected from the search.
In some cases, the pages were removed, which were clearly only written for SEO purposes. If you believe that this is the case for your website, it is probably worthwhile to carry out a blog cleaning to ensure that your content is luckily sending your customers and your audience for his unique insight and not just to the filler to have content.
I will leave comments on this post open. If you have an insight, please do so!
