Put your awesome gay life on your Living Fabulous Social Life calendar
1. Enter birthdays, holidays, anniversaries and other special occasions
Get religious about sending birthday, anniversary and holiday cards. Becoming a card sender doesn’t mean taking out a small loan from Hallmark. You can get reasonably priced cards at Target – stay away from the Papyrus store – or, if you’re currently strapped for cash, you can shop at a dollar store.
Enter important dates in your calendar. Some holidays and special occasions involve more than just sending cards, such as gathering with friends and family for a Thanksgiving feast and a Fourth of July barbecue.
2. List future important social events
You can’t do everything, but you don’t want everyone to forget about you. Plan ahead by adding the most important gay life to-dos. We think that two events a month is just perfect. Choose events that give you the most bang for your buck, be it the number of friends you’ll meet, the fun you’ll have, or the money you’ll save.
3. Add free and cheap things to your gay social life
Free and cheap? That’s not great, you say. Well, it’s not being broke either. To prevent your life from becoming boring when you’re strapped for cash, plan some activities in advance that will keep you from spending money but still allow you to have a fun social life. Add the obvious to your Living Fabulous Social Life calendar, like watching Netflix. Another example of how we live a great gay life is playing Rummycube. My family is addicted to this game! We also have friends who are into it. A few times a year we get together for a Rummycube tournament with snacks, beer or wine and it’s a cheap, fun evening.
There are tons of other options for game nights. Cards Against Humanity, Heroscape, Carcassone or Clue.
4. Look for more free and cheap offers
Most cities and regions have blogs, city guides or websites that list free and cheap activities in the area. Denver offers free and affordable events and activities listed on Denver.org. We also have MileHighOnTheCheap.com. In Philadelphia there are free things listed at PhillyFunGuide.com and in New York City there is TheSkint.com. These are just the places we go.
Find similar resources for where you live and travel to fill your printable social calendar with seasonal activities and activities you might not otherwise consider.
