Why we chose to be debt-free instead of making more

Why we chose to be debt-free instead of making more

Living debt-free was the obvious choice

Why did we choose to live debt-free instead of making more money? To some this may seem like a stupid mistake, but listen to this podcast and find out why.

Our first choice for living debt-free

More, more, more. Buy, buy, buy! It’s the American dream, right? It can be seen in all the images we see on Instagram, Facebook and Tumbler. Everyone wants to have the perfect social media life. The one who seems to inspire envy. The one who brings the rest of us to TGIF once a week for 50 weeks a year and says, “Ugh! I can’t stand another Monday.” Another 50 weeks.

To be honest, it was partly seeing and hearing our Facebook friends complaining every Monday morning about the jobs they hated but felt tied to that motivated us to pursue our goal. You see, on our fateful visit to Winter Park, Colorado, we were at the top of both the pay scale and the corporate ranks. The drive that locked us in the car for 90 minutes and forced us to have in-depth conversations about our finances. This convinced us that living debt-free is a better choice than just making more money.

We’re sharing all that and more with you this week Queer money™:

Live debt freedom topics covered

  • We cover our own debt-back stories about how we ended up in $51,000 in credit card debt
  • We’ll tell you exactly what caused us to have that a-ha moment and then decide to become debt-free
  • We discuss why it was important to pay off our debts first
  • We examine why simply making more money wouldn’t have been the solution
  • We also talk about our biggest successes in choosing to live a debt-free life instead of making more money
  • And why making more money is now an important factor in achieving our original dream of giving back to our community
  • We also give a tip for each how we lived a fun life while paying off debt and why that was a big factor in us being able to live debt-free instead of making more money
  • Finally, we share why we created the 7 Day Debt Free Challenge, which is no longer available. Rather, Enroll in the Credit Card Pay Off Plan here to pay off your credit card debt as quickly as possible.

As always, John and I go against the grain when it comes to the majority of white gay men in the cis community. We don’t chase after the A-list or try to be at all the gala events and show off our cars, houses or vacations, even though we love to travel. Instead, we initially chose a debt-free life because it aligned with our true values; our love for each other, our desire to spend more time together, to have time to travel and see the world together and ultimately create a path through the dense jungle of financial confusion for our LGBTQ brothers and sisters who truly care want to help yourself. It may not be the right choice for you, but if so, you’ve come to the right place Queer money™.
