Unsexy gifts for Valentine’s Day
In addition Queer money®, #38, we talked about celebrating Valentine’s Day in a unique and fun way that creates a more honest and intimate relationship with your husband or boyfriend.
We were met by love and relationship specialist Dr. Jennelle joins us to talk about love and money and how when you’re in love you should talk about money to protect your family financially.
Dr. Jennelle is a Ph.D. Psychologist and relationship counselor. She specializes in non-traditional relationships, particularly those that transition from heterosexual marriages to same-sex marriages, because that’s exactly what she did. It’s like talking to queer people about money, because that’s what we are.
A pattern that Dr. What Jenelle sees in couples she counsels is that people transitioning from one marriage to another often mistakenly assume that their new partner has the same financial beliefs and money management styles as them. As she noted, we should take a cue from our heterosexual peers and have the money conversation sooner rather than later.

So, as we discussed further Queer money® Podcast episode #38, not everyone wants gifts. There are five different love languages, and with more people receiving gifts is usually four or five. But our consumer society is oversold with cards, chocolates, dinners and everything you need to show your loved one how much you love him.
Why don’t you give him something better? Give him valuable time. Give him intimacy. Give him something that can involve physical touch.
Give him your credit report.
“What you say! Look, in our experience and that of Dr. Jennell, gay couples don’t talk about money enough, let alone soon enough. Gay couples love sex, but never have enough. Because studies show that couples who talk about their Finance talk, report having better sex, you should have an open, vulnerable conversation with your Valentine by sharing your credit report with him.
This will put your relationship on a solid foundation and – just maybe – get him into bed.
Give him this (un)sexy Valentine’s Day gift:
