1. Select a WordPress plan (only wordpress.com).

2. Set up your domain name and your hosting provider (WordPress.org).

If you prefer to use WordPress.org as WordPress.com, you have to select your hosting provider and set up your domain name before you can create your WordPress website.

How to choose the domain and hosting provider

I know – that sounds like it is complicated. But don’t worry! I think you will be surprised at how easy and not technically it is to install WordPress.

Since WordPress is so popular, most high -quality web hosts have created really simple dashboards that make WordPress installing as easy as clicking on a few buttons.

Some committed WordPress hosting providers will even present WordPress for you so that you can start immediately.

Let us continue to use BlueHost in this example. In my experience, however, the same general principles that you see here apply to pretty much any quality -word -press host.

4. Select and install your topic.

WordPress topics help you to control the overall design and style of your website without changing the underlying content.

Somehow you can imagine clothing. If you put on a new shirt, you are still “you” underneath. At the same time, you can quickly change how you look into the outside world.

Suppose you publish some blog posts and decide that you want to change your topic. After you have changed your topic, all of these blog posts will continue to be there. They are simply designed differently according to the rules of their new WordPress theme.

When you install the WordPress software for the first time, WordPress automatically uses a standard topic that looks pretty simple. Instead of using this standard topic, I recommend installing a new WordPress topic that corresponds to your preferred design aesthetics.

Select your WordPress topic.

You can find thousands of free or paid topics, so you can almost surely find a design that you like.

In the past it was common to find very niche-specific WordPress topics. For example, a WordPress topic for “Restaurant website” and another WordPress topic for “sanitary shops”.

Nowadays, however, the most popular approach to developers is to offer only a flexible basic theme and then many importable starter sites. In my experience, this is the best way to choose your topics.

Personally, I think that the selection of a slight multi -purpose topic like how AstraPresent Cadence topicor Generate is a great place at the start. I personally use generate discovery on most of my websites when you ask yourself.

All of these topics are multi -purpose (which means that you can use them for any kind of site) and contain dozens or hundreds of importable “starter sites”. Basically, this means that you import a starter site design with just a few clicks and then immediately have a nice website.

Install your WordPress topic.

As soon as you have selected the WordPress topic you want to use, you will be installed in this way:

1. Open your WordPress dashboard.
2. Go to Look → topics.
3. Click the Add new topic Button above.

If it is a free topic at WordPress.org, you can install it by looking for it. If it is a first -class topic that you bought directly from a developer, you must upload the .zip file for your topic.

Adjust your WordPress topic.

As soon as you have found the perfect topic, you can install it to start adjusting. Each topic contains different steps during the adjustment process. So follow exactly this.

5. Add posts and pages to your website.

If you add content to your WordPress website, it is usually displayed in the form of articles and pages:

• Contributions – Use this if you want to create blog posts or similar content. New posts are automatically displayed on your blog list, and each post has its own public publication date.
• Pages – These are better for static content that does not have a publication date. For example, your page “About”, “Contact” page and so on. There is no standard page on which all your “pages” are listed. However, you can add links to you via the navigation menu of your website or other areas.

For extended use cases, you can also create your own custom WordPress post type.

However, I do not recommend going this way until you familiarize yourself with the WordPress software. However, I recommend learning this at some point because it really unlocks a lot of flexibility.

To add a post to your website, go to the admin dashboard, click on Contributionsand then Add new post.

To add text, you can simply click in the editor and start typing. For other elements – e.g. B. Images or buttons – you can add blocks to the editor.

When you’re done, click on Save design To save your changes as a draft, or click on Publish To take the post live immediately.

Adding a page to your website is a similar process. Click in your administrator area PagesThen Add new page.

You can then add content to the block editor and Publish It when you’re done.

6. Adjust your website.

In addition to the topic you have selected, there are a number of ways to adapt your website. I think that’s a good time now to check a few options.

First you can adjust your site title. Select in your admin dashboard Settings> General. Add your website title and your slogan here. You can also switch other basic site information such as URL, e -mail, time zone and more.

By default, WordPress shows her latest blog posts on the homepage of your website. However, I think that most websites, including blogs, will benefit from the creation of a static homepage.

You can create your homepage as I showed you above (Add pages → new page) and then assign it in this setting area.

If you want to continue to have a blog, you can also create a new “blog” page and assign it as yours Contributions page. In this way, visitors can see their latest blog posts by going yoursite.com/blog.

Outside the setting area, I also recommend adapting the navigation menu of your WordPress site. You can easily find your visitors on your website.

3. Edit the existing menu that is delivered with your topic or create a new one.

If you use a new topic of “full-site processing”, go to Look and then editor instead. Most popular WordPress topics still use the Menus Interface.

From here you can find out what your navigation menu should look like, how many pages you want to include what you want to specify these pages and in what order you should be listed.

7. Install WordPress plugins to add new functions.

WordPress plugins are add-on to the Core WordPress software, with which you can add new functions to your website. This can be the frontend functionality to better recover your visitors or add new functions to your website. You can use plugins for small functions (e.g. adding a contact form) or large functions (e.g. your website in a fully functional online shop or online course).

Pretty much every single WordPress site needs plugins. This is because the Core WordPress software assumes that you will use plugins to add certain functions. For example, if you want to implement best practices for search engine optimization, you need a WordPress Seo plugin to do this.

Here is the quick overview of some of my favorite plugins for important functions that most WordPress sites need. You don’t necessarily have to install all Of these plugins, but I think you will consider to use at least some of them.

• Drift Kings Media WordPress Plugin. Simply add pop-ups, forms and live chat to your WordPress website. You can also integrate the HubSpot -CRM into your WordPress website.
• The SEO framework. This is one of my personal favorite SEO plugins. However, there are also several other popular and high-quality SEO plugins, including Yoast SeoPresent Everything in one SEOAnd Rank math.
• Gravity shapes. This is one of the best Builder plugin for all-purpose form for WordPress. You can use it for basic contact forms or more advanced forms such as user registration, payments and more. If you are looking for a free solution, I think Flowing shapes Can also be a good option.
• WP rocket. This is a great premium plugin to accelerate your WordPress site and make it more efficient. If you want a free option, you can also take them into account WP-optimized plugin.

• The event calendar. If you want to add events to your website, this is one of the best options.

To install a new plugin, click on the Plugins Menu in the sidebar of your WordPress dashboard. This shows you all plugins installed on your website.

Depending on your host, you may already have installed several plugins. Note that you have to activate it after installation so that a plugin works.

2. Search for your desired plugin.

8. Optimize your website to increase the side speed.

Website performance is a critical part of the user experience. If your website takes too long, visitors will not enjoy using it, and may even give up on your website and go somewhere else.

One of the best ways to ensure that your website will be invited quickly is to select the quality -word -press hosting. In general, you get what you pay for, and cheap hosting usually does not offer the same level of performance as more premium hosting (especially for high-traffic pages).

However, there are still a number of strategies that you can implement on every host to load your website faster. Here are some of the most remarkable strategies for performance optimization that must be taken into account in my experience, accelerate the dozens of WordPress website.

• Page caching. This makes your website much more efficient by dynamically “creating” the WordPress page for every visit. • Optimize code. There are many strategies to optimize the code of your website, and how it loads, including the sliding of render blocking of JavaScript, the delay of the JavaScript version, removing non-used CSS and minimizing your code. The easiest way to implement all of these strategies is to use a WordPress performance optimization plugin.
• Optimize pictures. By optimizing the images, your file sizes are reduced by compressing, changing the resolution and optimizing your load. You can use an image optimization plugin to automatically do this for images that you upload to WordPress. My personal favorite is Shortpixel.

If you are ready to pay for a premium plugin, I think that one of the simplest ways to implement most of these strategies WP rocket plugin. I use this plugin on my own personal websites because I find the comfort for the money.

However, if you have a short budget, you can implement all of these functions with free plugins. It only takes some time and give the setup of your website an additional complexity.

9. Let yourself be inspired by examples of WordPress website.

When you start adapting your website, you may feel overwhelmed by all options you have. Instead of starting completely from the front, it helps with other exemplary WordPress websites.

To end things, I would like to share some general WordPress tips and tips and tricks that I have created and managed in my more than 10 years, create and manage the WordPress website.

1. Hold WordPress, topics and plugins updated.

Not all developers use the same version number format for plug -in and topics updates. For this reason, I recommend reading the changelog for every update to determine whether it contains new functions or safety/maintenance fixes.

2. If you have created your website with wordpress.com, use online support.

While I personally use WordPress myself, I think WordPress.com can be a great option for people who really want a hands-off experience.

If you pay for one of the WordPress.com plans, I strongly recommend With their committed supporthow it is another big advantage of the platform.

It makes no sense to pay a bit of a bonus if you don’t want to use any of the greatest advantages.

3. Back up and update your website regularly.

Backups sound like additional work until you have reached a technical roadblock and need hard refreshment. If you ever lose access or have technological difficulties, you have everything you need to completely restore your content.

In my experience, pretty much every quality WordPress host offers a kind of backup tool these days. However, the backups at cheap hosts can continue to be problematic, since you may save the safety version on the same server as your live site (what a big no question is to support your host if you are not sure how you do it).

If your host does not carry out daily backups And When I save these backups in a completely separate place, I strongly recommend supporting your website with one of the many backup plugins. I personally use The free plugin for BrewenBut there are many great options.

I recommend that you automatically support your website daily (or weekly if you don’t publish new content very often). I also recommend supporting your website before using any software updates.

4. Select an optimal WordPress permalinks structure.

The permalink settings of your website control the structure of URLS on your website. For example, your Permalink choice could be the difference between the URL of a blog post your page.com/06/11/post-slug or your page.com/post-slug.

Permalinks can play a role in both the user experience and in SEO. I therefore recommend choosing them carefully. You can adjust the configuration of your website by going Settings → permalinks.

For most websites I recommend choosing the Postname Structure. However, you can adjust the structure if your situation requires something else.

Just make sure to change the Permalink structure on an established website, as this can have a negative impact on the SEO of your website.

5. Understand SEO.

If you want people to actually see their WordPress website, it is important to experience SEO and implement best practices on their website.

Learn and understand the SEO bases to ensure that your website is fully optimized so that you can increase your conversions.

Explore which keywords you want to evaluate and use in your copy. You can even start a blog so that you can share your knowledge and at the same time improve your ranking.

7. Add a “About us” page on your website.

Your customers want to know who they are. Here your side comes into play. Show your visitors that you are a trustworthy person and/or a business.

“About us” pages are one of the most visited pages on websites (according to the HomePages)-it is important to introduce yourself.

Like any other page, you can create a “About us” page on your website. Just go to Add pages → new page begin.
