My thoughts as a gay husband to my gay husband
We all want the perfect man, but what does it take to find and win him? Let me tell you. And if you ask me what makes me such an expert, I’ll just say: 16 years of marital bliss and that we’ve practiced every one of them. ALL!
1. Stop complaining about being single!
That’s right. Nobody likes to hear your endless complaining. Just let it go. You’re not the only one who’s single. Complaining looks desperate. Your perfect gay husband is not desperately looking.
When you complain you look like this…
Instead, channel your complaining energy into becoming a better version of the guy you’d like to sweep off his feet. Here are a few suggestions for a fresh start.
2. Get fit
This has nothing to do with the size or shape of your body. There is no body shaming here.
Whether you want to fish a bear, an otter, a twink, or a gym bunny, we all know what our guy likes and know how to get him in shape to get him hot. Do the work. Here are a few suggestions to get you started.
A great side effect of getting fit; You’ll feel better. When you feel better physically, you feel better mentally, and that happens to be next…
3. Get smart
Don’t ask me why, but a man who knows something has a certain charm. I’m not saying you have to go all the way to Harvard, but learn something, be it about the community, your field of work, or just interesting facts. This will help you carry on a conversation at the dinner table or on a couple’s date with their friends.
If only you can talk about the latest episode of Drag Race or Queer eyeMost guys will see your limited conversation and wonder what you’re doing with all your time. They may think that you are not the perfect candidate for them They become the other half of their gay power couple.
4. Get financially fit
There’s a reason why in all Disney princess stories a young prince sweeps the young heroine off her feet. Princes are sluts with wealth! No one wants to fall in love and then receive a bill for paying off their new boyfriend’s credit cards, loans, or car payments.
If you are in control of your money, you will get a better catch. Let me tell you, there are only so many sugar daddies. Most men with financial confidence are looking for partners to help them achieve their dreams, not to slow them down. Here is the perfect place for it to start getting your money together.
5. Gain self-confidence
This ties in a bit with number one. When you’re desperate or acting weak, you give off an impression of shyness. Think about it in bed. Do you want a shy sexual partner? Hell no, you don’t. You want a man who knows how to do it!
The reason most of us lack confidence is because we haven’t won often enough. Everyone wants that big win that completely changes our lives, but guess what? That probably won’t happen. The vast majority of us are created by our habits.
How do you fix the problem? Position yourself so that you can win even with small things. Back to number three: start learning how to do things and then start testing yourself. If you are an author, write it and submit it as a guest post to websites. If you are a musician, release your music on Soundcloud and get people excited. There are a million different ways to win. Find one or two that inspire you and start winning!
Another great way to do this is Surround yourself with other winners. Winners breed winners.
6. Switch from Grindr to dating apps
Grindr and Scruff have their place, but if you keep looking for the connection, that’s all you get. Yes, I know there are a few success stories of men who got involved with Grindr and are now in long-term monogamous relationships. But that’s it. A couple. People on these apps are looking for the right partner, not the forever man.
There are a ton of dating apps that are not only designed to help you find your forever man, but are also designed exclusively for that purpose. I don’t recommend any of them here as I don’t have much experience with them since it’s been 16 years and I don’t want to be disingenuous.
MD Johnson writes in his book: Looking?: The Impact of Technology on Modern Relationshipssays over 60% of couples who get married now meet on dating apps. So do some Googling!
7. Surround yourself with better people
If you surround yourself with a bunch of bitter, lonely queens who are always complaining about being single, what do you think are going through your head?
As I said in number five, to be more confident, surround yourself with confident people. The other reason to surround yourself with better people is to remove negative thoughts from your environment and replace them with positive and successful conversations.
Maybe it’s time to stop spending time on Facebook and Reddit filled with chatty conversations about sex, politics, and pop culture and, in turn, have some one-on-one conversations with real people who inspire and motivate you. A good place to start is to reach out to those who are getting more out of their lives and our queer community.
Finding the perfect gay husband doesn’t happen overnight, just like the above can’t all be done in a day. It will take time, but as you begin to change, you will find that others are either drawn to you or question why you are so big and successful. It’s the latter that hold you back and the former where you’re likely to find the perfect man of your dreams.
Cheers to being and becoming your amazing gay husband.
