Why gay men earn more money:

What factors do gay men cause more money to make more money

The latest data reflects an obvious increase in income for LGBTQ pairs. So what is behind this trend towards equality of income? In this episode of Queer Money®We share the four top theories about why same-sex couples earn more and explain how life in cities with larger population groups on jobs with higher wages-but is not necessarily a guarantee for financial security.

We prove how less likely children have the opportunity to earn more and describe how code switching can go hand in hand with a financial advantage when working. Listen to how gender wage gay gay men gives an advantage, and learn how those of us who earn more can use our privilege to promote equality of income for everyone in the Queer community.

Topics treated with gay men and equality of income

1. We live in cities with larger populations

At the time when many of us complete the high school and college, many of us want to move to larger cities to have more LGBTQ people. Twenty percent of the LGBTQ community live in subway areas compared to 22% of the general population.

The jobs are in big cities. Large cities are more expensive, so jobs in larger cities pay higher salaries. With many queer people who live in larger cities who earn larger city salaries, there is a look that Queer people generally earn more money.

But less of us live in countries with low incomes, such as Alabama, Arkansas and Louisianna. This does not mean that queer people do not live in these countries, but less of us.

It is important to note that income does not define prosperity or financial security. While many of us live in these cities with higher -paid workplaces, larger cities have higher living costs. For many, it is more difficult for us to live from a salary check to salary check.

2. We have less likely children

According to the Williams Institute, only about 20% of the LGBTQ people have children. Less gay couples have children. Therefore, we have more flexibility and time to spend in the office. We can go on the way in more hours.

When David began his career in financial services, he was often asked to work late layers, the weekends and public holidays because “everyone else has a family”. David was happy to help the team and earn overtime, but this is also a subtle form of discrimination.

Likewise, there is always the team member who has to come late or go early because they have to get their children to it, that and the other. It is nice that companies make these accommodations, but the work still has to be done. Many individual and LGBTQ people take up the workload.

Interestingly, studies show that 66% of both partners work in same -sex households. Only 49% of both partners work in households with opposite relationships. It is also interesting to determine that whether we are married or unmarried and have children or have no children, studies, including the latest US people counting, show that gay couples probably have both partners. Lesbian couples are just a little less. With straight couples, it is even less likely that both partners work. A correlation could be made that the more difficult it is to have children, the likely it is that both work.

After all, we also make ourselves more mobile if you don’t have children, at least the human way. So we can take on easier and move for a better or higher -paid job. We all have this friend who has lived in five cities in five years, right? This mobility opens up to us for more options and more money.

3. The gender -specific wage gap

Prudentials 2012 LGBT Financial Experience Survey and your LGBT Financial Experience Movement 2016-2017 have emphasized sexual orientation and the wage gradient of the gender identity. Income based on sexual orientation is as follows:

  • Bisexual men – $ 85,084
  • Hetro Men – $ 83.469
  • Gay men – $ 56.936
  • Hetro women – $ 51,461 $
  • Lesbians – $ 45,606
  • Bisexual women – $ 35,980

In order to follow the number two above, same-sex couples, although both partners work, earn only about $ 17,250 more than married couples with other sexes. For a population group in which both partners work all their lives, this difference of $ 17,250 is less than impressive.

All in all, we believe that and the US people count that a more detailed study – no survey – is required to determine exactly what the wage gaps are and why. No organization has got on the plate to carry out this study.

4. Many of us participate

The code switch is the act of changing your own behavior in order to adapt to cultural norms. Gays and lesbians who are conformer or able to hide their identity for years may have been encouraged without being discriminated against.

It is not correct to be treated equally that we have to adjust who we are and meet the expectations of other people. There is also a level of injustice that many gay men, lesbian women and bisexual people can shake out with the switch, while many trans people cannot. But it is the reality of the heteronormative, patriarchal system in which we live and very evolutionary.

While the code switch may have its benefits for those who can do this, and in turn it is not correct that we show that studies that our full self is inhibits work, our productivity and creativity. Therefore, we cannot run through our best and our employers cannot be able to do their best.

Nevertheless, the trend seems to change, and it changes where changes in cultural norms often often begin – in the arts. See Lavererne Cox, Dominique JacksonJanet Mock, Todrick Hall and others.

Other reasons why same -sex couples earn more

There are other reasons why gay men may earn more. When Andrew Tobias spoke decades ago, many of us gay men spend an unhealthy amount of our lives to prove to prove us as worthy. We are all broken, little boys who are looking for mom and dad’s approval.

We also have a high level of respect for university formation and may spend a lot of time and money to earn all the degrees to prove that we are good enough for a job. As already mentioned, studies show that an LGBTQ person can cost over 50,000 US dollars of additional education, certification, unpaid wages and more to keep up with our heterosexual colleagues. It is not fair here either, but we are there.

After all, LGBTQ acceptance improves all along the line. Over 70% of the US population now support same-sex marriage. We have a president and vice president who does everything he can to do more queer people more rights. Trans people have more visibility than ever in history.

None of this can be said that we are near the place where we have to be, but we are much closer than ever before. It has to be done even more and the fight will not be easy, but we see success voltages.
