Our 9 favorite gay travel apps
The gay travel apps discussed
Planning is equally important when it comes to finding the best prices, seating, food and meetings. Planning your gay trip is an important key to successful gay travel.
1. Gay travel apps, Grindr, Scruff and Hornet
Hookup apps can be used for more than just connecting. In fact, Scruff has a new feature that lets you meet other gays in other locations just to be friends. Miracles never stop! For more information on how to use these apps for more than just sex, click here this episode of Queer money.
2. Rome2Rio and SkyScanner are gay travel apps
Rome2Rio represents the most efficient and cheapest routes to get from point A to point B. If you are in Brussels and want to go to Cape Town, Rome2Rio will take you there. Another favorite for LGBTQ travelers is Skyscanner. Skyscanner searches the skies for the cheapest flights to get from one place to the next. It relies entirely on algorithms to find flights, rather than its relationship with airlines, so its recommendations are unbiased.
3. CheapFlightsFreak.com and Jet Setter are great travel sites
These websites will keep you up to date with current location deals and airfares to any location you’re interested in exploring.
4. RetailMeNot is one of many that can be used as gay travel apps
When you book hotel rooms, airline tickets or rental cars, there is usually a box on the website to add a discount code near where you provide your credit card information. Find one for your hotel stay, plane ticket and car rental for your upcoming vacation. Discounts range from a few dollars to 40% off. Retail Me Not also offers vouchers for free meals at hotels, as well as bonus points and miles for hotels and airlines.
5. You know that Misterb&b is one of many popular gay travel apps
Misterb&b is gay Airbnb. We recently used Misterb&b to travel around Ireland and Spain for a month. Here’s what we learned. Book Misterb&b in advance. Booking in real time was a real time waster. Additionally, the more reviews your profile contains, the more likely and faster you will be approved. After all, it’s not always in your best interest to tell the host that you’re in a relationship or married. We’re not sure if the hosts were looking for sex, but we did notice that several conversations were cut short when we told the hosts we were married.
6. Ebab.com is a gay B&B site
“Enjoy Bed & Breakfast.” Ebab was the very first gay travel site and was originally founded in 1996 when queer rights were not what they are today. Ebab was founded on the principle that “everyone has the right to travel freely and without discrimination.”
7. Home Around the World, HomeExchange and LGHEI are good for barter and exchange transactions
These websites make it easier to swap apartments or stay with strangers. They expand your travel destination options and offer the benefits of free accommodation. Additionally, with Home Around the World and LGHEI, you get the peace of mind of living with or in a home where you feel safer.
8. DocuBank and LifeLink are great travel security tools
Store official and legal documents, including health orders, emergency medical information and marriage certificates, electronically for easy access when needed from anywhere in the world.
9. U.S. Department of State LGBTQ Travel Information, Equaldex.com and 72crimes.com are LGBTQ safety resources
Despite the progress we have made in the last 20 years, homophobia still exists. Even the US State Department publishes a useful LGBTQ travel information page.
Other websites to visit when planning your LGBTQ travels include Equaldex.com, which shares LGBTQ rights and news from around the world. 76crimes.com reports LGBTQ news from over 76 countries around the world where homosexuality is still illegal.
Again, planning is the best first step when planning a gay trip.
