Table of contents

What is a social media calendar?

A calendar in social media content is an overview of your upcoming contributions that are organized after date and time. A social media calendar can be a table (HubSpot offers a free one that you can download here), digital calendar or interactive dashboard.

Advantages of using a contentar and content planner for social media content in social media

A successful social media strategy requires regular publications and detention with followers to achieve positive results -regardless of whether you are looking for sales, brand recognition, lead generation or all three.

If you do not use a content planner for social media content yet, there are some advantages to arouse your interest.

Just turn when the plans change.

This makes it easier for you to adapt your content and deal with a wider audience.

How to create a social media calendar

To create an effective social media calendar, you should:

1. Perform a social media audit.

A social media audit evaluates your social media presence, your accounts and your commitment. In my experience, an exam is more than just analyzing your social media performance.

It helps you to better understand the interests, habits and expectations of your target group, and gives you crucial indications of how you deal with your content.

She also keeps in touch with new social media trends, tools and functions.

Be sure to check after completing your exam:

  1. Engagement rate.
  2. Conversion rate.
  3. Click rate.
  4. To reach.
  5. Impressions.

You can use these metrics about all of your social accounts in relation to the conclusions and your social media calendar from there. Try to uncover patterns and understand what certain content does better than the other contributions.

Most platforms help you to identify your top performance content with your own integrated analyzes, as shown below.

Connect your strategy for social content with business goals.

Do not treat social media as an independent marketing strategy – it should be part of a larger puzzle. Find the KPIs that are important for your company and then make sure that your social strategy supports these KPIs.

Let us assume, for example, that your KPI should increase sales by x% for a new product at the company level. You can write a detailed press release on your website and then share it on social media.

In this case, the concentration on social media-click through to increase traffic to this special press release, to the main KPI.

Carry out a competitive analysis.

Check the social media accounts of your competitors with these competitive analysis templates and check:

  • The types of content they share.
  • Publication frequency.
  • Commitment of the audience.

Our free templates guide you through the entire process:

Try as detailed as detailed as possible – just like when examining the performance of your own strategy. Do you want more details? Click here to find out how to do a social media audit step by step.

2. Select your social media channels and the content you publish.

Once you’ve completed your audit, it is time to use what you have learned. Your audit should give you a feeling of what you do right, where you should experiment and which channels are best suited for your audience.

For example, say that Instagram has been your top social media channel for the commitment in the past in the past, but you have seen a decline in the past six months.

Your audit should show you what the commitment to IG looks like for your competitors, and what is now for your company and what is not.

Find the platforms that your target group uses the most.

Demography of the target group for the target group is needed to know information about planning your content. You want to use market research that can help you find the most popular social media platforms for your audience.

For example, say my target group is Z. I share Instagram rolls and post on x, but nothing takes. I know from our consumer trend report (market research) that Gen ZS Favorite -Social -Media -Canal from Gen Z TikTok is.

This means that I would be better off my marketing strategy there to advance the results.

Plan the content you want to create for each channel.

As soon as you have selected your platforms, it is time to plan your social media content. Check your team and budget to get a realistic feeling for how much high -quality content you can produce.

You can often produce more high quality content for less money if you create stacks, which makes careful planning of content. Then use your brand manual and analysis of the social audit to create content that uses your audience.

Create an intelligent mix of social content.

It is best to create a variety of content. Videos are popular, but pictures, text-based contributions, infographics, testimonials and live streams are also effective. For example, Instagram is ideal for visual stories.

In this sense, the Activewear brand Popplex has products, product design sketches, peers behind the scenes and lifestyle content.

Glossier uses a unique content strategy for every social audience. The YouTube channel, for example, offers a play list “Get -With Me” videos of influencers, actresses and CEOs with its products.

Glossier uses his social feed on LinkedIn to highlight his attitude towards culture and events. And on Reddit, the content commissioned the community with requests for conversation and criticism.

These templates for the creation of content can accelerate the process if you create clear content for several platforms.

3. Decide what your calendar should contain.

As the starting point, your calendar should contain the following:

  • The platforms you use.
  • The day and the time that are published by your contributions.
  • Links, graphics, videos and copy.

The color coding is also ideal for the decision-making process of AT-A glance every month. For example, content in our monthly planner for social content:

Content planner in social media content planner color coding: hubpothttps: //offers.hubspot.com/social-media-content-calendar

If you become more skillful with your calendar, you may want to insert it to the following:

  • Platform -specific materials include roles, Tikok Live, surveys, shopping posts, etc.
  • Geo-Targeting.
  • The associated or vertical campaigns such as product launches and competitions.

4. Get feedback.

As soon as your calendar is complete, share it with your team and your stakeholders to maintain your feedback and ensure that it meets the needs of all. Your social media calendar should be an easy-to-understand plan that matches your social media strategy.

The monthly template in our social media calendar is helpful if you share your plan with stakeholders who want a feeling for the overall picture but do not have to go into detailed details.

In addition to user -friendly use, there is also a user manual that is installed directly into the website:

Screenshot from Drift Kings Medias Free social media calendar onboarding processhttps: //offers.hubspot.com/social-media-content-calendar

The other sections are useful for social media managers who plan, create and publish on social media.

As soon as you have excluded all of these steps, the next step is to actually create your calendar for social media planning with a template or a tool.

Templates for social media

Before I worked at Drift Kings Media, I have completed social media for a small non -profit organization. I built up his social media presence from zero so that it was important to plan and create a calendar for me (and the non -profit guides).

I did my planning with a template that I found online (which was happily the Drift Kings Media template). It helped me to stay organized and also when I had to share content.

Plan contributions for full weeks or months in advance and free your working hours to strategate for the future. This means that you are prevented from spending valuable time to search for daily on the Internet to share content, a well -known productivity killer.

I will go down in two of the free social media calendar templates from HubSpot, which you download and your best functions.

1. Drift Kings Media’s social media calendar template

If you are new to setting up social media calendars, HubSpot offers a free, prefabricated downloadable template with which you can plan the full post-post post contributions.

With the download you will get access to several leaves that are helpful for your planning process, including:

  • Platform -specific tabs to plan and organize contributions for each platform you use. This was the best part of the template for my social media work. I created separate plans for the platforms I used and then added the planned contributions for a four -week overview of the monthly calendar.
  • A monthly planning calendarWhere you get a monthly overview of the high level. For me, this part of the template was extremely helpful to share with stakeholders who wanted to know what was to be expected, but did not need access to the platform platform ceiling.

2. Drift Kings Media content calendar -template from HubSpot for startups

The Calender template for startups from HubSpot in social media content is similar to the template above, but also contains a tab “Content Repository” and helpful tips for posting in social media networks.

Screenshot 2019-08-28 at 8.36.26 a.m.

I like this template for startups because maintaining a high level of productivity is a must. This template makes it easier to organize your campaigns, to expand your reach and to stay with the task.

Here are some of the functions that I find most helpful for startups:

  • A Content repository Where you can list your existing content to share or write ideas for the future. You can fill your content repository with ideas with our blog ideenerator.
  • If you are a lifting spot for startups users, you can just Mass upload your planned content In the template for the HubSpot -Social -Post input with a .cSV file and the Bulk -Uploader from HubSpot. Simply follow the step-by-step instructions in the template.

After going through some template options, we look at some high-quality examples of content calendar from social media content that you can use as inspiration.

Examples of social media calendar

1. Jotform social media calendar

Examples of content calendar: Jotform social media content calendar

The Jotform social media calendar is not only visually appealing and functional. The tabs above show their social plan for every channel on which they run their strategy, including personal or virtual events.

If you model your social calendar, I recommend taking a tab for content details with you and who is responsible for creating the content in your team.

You may also have a separate tab for every month to keep things organized.

2. Firefly Marketing Social Media Content Calendar

Examples of content calendar: Jotform social media content calendar

Do you go a more traditional way with your social media calendar? Try a Google Sheets template like the Google Sheets template created by Firefly Marketing. Each tab is devoted to another month, while the worksheet contains every channel that you may need over the top.

The lines are separated by week, so that you can quickly identify the date and time that is planned for a contribution to publication. My favorite part of this template is the pre -populated column for social media with funny data that your audience will love.

Content calendar tools for social media content to plan your messages

As I mentioned above, I treated social media for a non -profit organization before I worked at HubSpot. I was mostly a beginner and the non -profit organization was small, so I had the feeling that a template was everything I needed.

At the same time, a tool for social media content calendar would have shortened my planning time in half and gave me more time to concentrate on creating content for sharing. Tools are helpful for everyone, regardless of experience in the field of experience or business size.

I tested some of the leading tools for social media calendar to give you a feeling for how you can work for your needs, and I have put together my most important snack bars below. Consider the following factors (based on your needs):

  • Functionality. Some tools are simple and they would use them to plan content before they publish it themselves, and others are more advanced, automated tools that go one step further and publish content for them.
  • Characteristics. The tool should offer the specific functions you need, e.g. B. managing several social media accounts or access to the dashboard of several team members.
  • Adjustments. In calendars you should adapt the layout, categories, tags or other factors that are relevant for your needs.
  • User -friendliness. A user -friendly and intuitive surface makes your work easier and helps you to get started faster.
  • Cost. You want a tool that is in the budget and contains all the necessary functions.

Let’s take a look at my tests.

Note: I know Some of the screenshots of calendars that I look bloak and simply. Your will undoubtedly look much more complete and more valuable than mine. I’m just a helpful guinea pig.
