These are unique times, and not everyone emerges from this cacoon as the new butterflies we may have hoped to become. But it’s all good.

Every day is a new day to start again.

That’s why our first advice to everyone is: Don’t blame yourself for past mistakes, for things you didn’t do but should have done, and for things you shouldn’t have done but did. No one was fully prepared for this. So give yourself grace and then space, because challenging times can lead to some of our greatest breakthroughs.

We talk about the importance of financial forgiveness and how to implement it Queer money®:

So after you’ve given yourself grace and space, we’re sharing nine with you below Fun How we stay healthy during these difficult times of quarantine.

1. Read more

In normal times we try to read a little bit every day. During these times, our reading has increased significantly. We are tired of constantly watching TV and movies, especially when work requires us to sit at the laptop all day.

So when we need a break, rest or encouragement, we usually resort to reading. Books we have read or are reading during quarantine include:

For those of you who, like David, are looking for free ways to read books, download the Libby app on your phone. If you’re looking for free children’s books, Audible currently offers thousands of free children’s books for free.

2. Maintain an exercise program

To be fair, we’re not perfect at this. In fact, we were both hoping to have a smaller midsection and larger chest and arms at this point in quarantine. But we are doing our best and the best we can do right now is good enough. What have we done?

We walked a little, walked a lot and did some bodyweight exercises. For some inspiring tips, check out this interview we did with our friend and personal trainer Aaron Guy.

We actually look like we did in our 30s when we went to the gym seven days a week? No. But we feel better physically and mentally when we exercise. The more we can maintain this positivity, the better. For more tips and helpful tools to stay fit today and tomorrow, see Click here for 5 fitness tips for gay men over 40.

3. Meditate more

Our daily meditation is slowly becoming a non-negotiable topic for us. We continue to see how five to 45 minutes of meditation can make or break our day. It sounds cliché, but it’s true.

If for no other reason, even a five-minute meditation gives us a moment of calm to start our day. Having the time to be quiet, not thinking about anything and not letting anything affect you is so peaceful.

We did mostly self-guided meditations, but after reading Give up the habit of being yourself for the second time and after reading Become supernaturalwe did some guided meditations and really enjoyed them. We have found the guided meditations to be particularly helpful in our longer meditations.

In fact, we continued to talk last year Queer money® about how one of our lowest points in life and business became one of our greatest periods of growth, due in large part to our evolving meditation practice. In this episode we talk a lot about the two recommended books mentioned above: Give up the habit of being yourself And Play The Matrix.

4. Be selective about TV shows and movies

After I made a mistake while watching 1917a slightly depressing but good movie, we decided to be more conscious about the TV shows and movies we watch. We opt for more casual and motivating entertainment, such as Beastie Boys story, Rewired on Gaia with Joe Dispenza and of course (who doesn’t love that) Schitz Creek.

You can access Rewired on Gaia as well as all of Gaia’s other productions Amazon Prime.

5. Listen to uplifting podcasts

You know we love podcasts about ourselves, right? We believe podcasts are a perfect accompaniment to long runs. With podcasts, just like with movies and television, we consciously avoid news and listen to thought leaders that motivate and educate. This not only helps our business but also keeps us inspired and focused.

6. Manage your social media

Social media can be great, and it has its time and place. But social media needs to be managed just like news. It’s so easy to get lost in all the drama or mindless scrolling that you lose yourself and your sense of peace.

We’ve recently unfollowed several people and pages when necessary and updated our Facebook settings to see positive people and pages first. In the short time that we use social media for something other than work, we mostly see uplifting content. We also rarely look at comments, especially on our company pages.

7. Eat healthier

In parallel with the exercises we do, we try to continue eating healthy. We normally eat healthy anyway, but during these and other stressful times we can also gravitate toward unhealthy eating and drinking habits.

What we eat has a big impact on how we feel and think, so we pay close attention to it. We are also conscious about our alcohol consumption. We love a good glass of wine or a martini, but one thing can lead to another, can lead to another, and so on.

That’s why we’ve put safety measures in place to handle what we’re covering in this episode.

8. Become more intimate

Humans release endorphins in different ways, and the more positive hormones we release every day, the happier we are. That’s why we cuddle more, we massage more and – yes – we have more sex. Sex is a great way to release energy and provide our bodies with mood-enhancing hormones.

It only takes one to have sex. Don’t assume this tip applies to everyone else.

9. Be more lenient

We repeat what we said at the beginning: forgive yourself and others. Expand yourself and others with grace.

No one was prepared for this and we don’t all come out of this Superman, Superwoman or Superperson.

Stop looking back to the past and stop looking so far into the future. Take one day at a time and stay present. Do what you can today, and that’s enough for now.
