Email campaigns are an important part of this Inbound marketingan ongoing process and philosophy (informed by HubSpot in its early days), where marketers meet buyers at every stage of their journey.

Inbound marketing recognizes that not everyone is ready to buy from you at this very moment, That’s why email is such an important channel.

It helps you stay on top of things by enabling communication in your personal inbox, on a large scale Marketing automation software.

However, email marketing is not an invitation to send emails recklessly.

You always want to make sure that each email provides value to the reader who ultimately reads it (because that’s how you can drive a conversion) and that all recipients have agreed to receive emails from you – there’s nothing worse, than being an unwelcome guest.

Effective email marketing campaigns

An email marketing campaign is as effective as its end goal. So what makes a campaign successful? A successful email campaign often includes the following:

  • A clear CTA (call to action)
  • Attractive, well-written text
  • Eye-catching subject lines
  • Clear and consistent branding
  • personalization

Here are some examples of different purposes your email campaign could achieve:

1. Email marketing campaigns to generate traffic

One of the biggest benefits of email marketing? Get clicks on pages on your website.

In fact, according to our recent email marketing survey, 45.2% of marketers cited generating web traffic as one of the main goals of their email marketing campaign.

Email marketing increases your referral traffic and attracts visitors who have already shown interest in your business, making them more likely to take action once they land on your website.

Overall, email is an effective promotional channel for the high-quality content you create on your website. It can help you drive qualified traffic to your product pages, blog posts, and web pages to increase conversions.

The image below is a great example of how you can seamlessly drive traffic to an external page with a clear CTA. If you’ve already grabbed attention with your text, readers will be more inclined to click and learn more.

Not everyone who joins your email list is ready to make a purchase. Therefore, email marketing helps you stay top of mind and provide them with the educational content that is most relevant to them.

When subscribers hear more from you than your competitors, they are more likely to trust you when they need more information on a topic – or when they need a specific product.

3. Lead Nurturing Email Marketing Campaigns

When you identify leads with the highest purchase intent, lead nurturing campaigns help you deliver conversion-oriented content “encourages” them to make a sale (or at least on the way to being ready for sale).

In these emails you can formulate the recipient’s purchase request more openly. You can include purchase-focused calls to action, such as: E.g. “Shop Now”, “Buy Now” and “Add to Cart”.

Effective Email Marketing Campaigns: Lead Nurturing

However, it is important that recipients have shown strong purchase intent.

Those who have added items to their cart, abandoned a purchase, or have a purchase history with your company clearly indicate purchase intent and could be perfect candidates for nurturing emails.

Pro tip: If you send promotional emails to casual visitors or first-time subscribers, I bet you’ll make them feel rushed or inadvertently discourage them from purchasing from you.

1. AutoTrader

Best Examples of Email Marketing Campaigns: Autotrader

Marketing Campaign: Email Settings

Great companies are constantly evolving and your customers expect change. What they don’t expect (because too many companies have defaulted on this agreement) is to be informed of these changes.

Still, this email from AutoTrader serves as a refreshing change.

Why I like this email

This email sets expectations for future communication and lets the recipient decide how often they want to hear from you. Giving a clear and fair warning is a best practice when changing the way you communicate with a lead or customer.

If they’re not on board, they can make the necessary changes to keep their inbox clean.

I also love the clear headline, clean design and eye-catching call to action (“Stay Subscribed”).

2. Netflix

Email Marketing Examples: Netflix

source

Marketing campaign: engagement

The average person subscribes 2.8 streaming channels. With multiple platforms vying for our attention, brands like Netflix have become more targeted with their emails.

This email from Netflix contains a curated list of new shows the customer may be interested in based on their viewing history.

It’s skimable, provides plenty of visual support for the new releases, and features a CTA prompting you to watch the trailer.

It also uses Netflix’s familiar black and red design, giving the recipient the feeling of scrolling through Netflix, showing the importance of keeping branding consistent across all your news channels.

Why I like this email

The CTAs in this email entice the user to stop what they are doing and go to Netflix to watch the new content. It also includes a “Top Tips for You” section that displays personalized recommendations for the user.

3. Lita Lewis Fitness

Email Marketing Campaign Example: Lita Lewis Fitness

Marketing campaign: update

Do you have a new product or project in the works? It’s a good idea to let your subscribers know before you launch, especially if you’ve been away for a long time.

Fitness expert and trainer Lita Lewis That’s exactly what she did in this email, reconnecting with her subscribers and informing them about her upcoming app.

Why I like this email

This email is personable and feels like I’m catching up with an old friend. The Join Now CTA makes it easy to sign up for notifications to ensure I can download the app as soon as it’s available.

30.7% of marketers say emails announcing new products or features have the highest click-through rates.

30.7% of marketers say emails announcing new products or features have the highest click-through rates4. Starbucks

Email Marketing Examples: Starbucks

Marketing campaign: advertising

Have you seen that? Did you see how it moved? Pretty cool, right? This little animation will help separate this email from Starbucks from all the stationary emails in recipients’ inboxes.

It also takes advantage of exclusivity by telling us that the promotion is a benefit of a Starbucks membership. This positioning can make recipients feel specially selected and encouraged to take advantage of the special opportunity.

The terms listed below are: “This offer is exclusive to you and this Starbucks Rewards account and may not be reproduced, transferred, or used by anyone else.” Which feels more exclusive? I love it.

Why I like this email

Emails can become static, boring and impersonal. This email subverts the expectations of a dull, text-heavy newsletter without going overboard, and the focus on exclusivity makes it particularly interesting.

Better yet, offer emails with images Increase in open rates by almost 10%.

5. Venmo

Best Examples of Email Marketing Campaigns: Venmo

source

Marketing campaign: Re-engagement campaign

Venmo’s friendly, informative email aims to re-engage lost users. By highlighting the app’s latest changes and benefits, the copy entices recipients to give the app another chance.

It’s short, but gives readers just enough information to decide whether or not they want to learn more about the new features.

The email could turn me away if it takes the choice away from me and stuffs information about new features into a text-heavy email.

Why I like this email

Small inclusions like the “Explore Venmo” CTA and benefit-oriented copy make the content seem inviting and less aggressive. I also love the brand images and attractive graphics.

6. Litmus

Email Marketing Campaign Example: Litmus – "Have you tried in vain to figure out how responsive design works under the hood?"

Marketing campaign: advertising

This email from Litmus is another great example of using animation to create a more interesting marketing email.

Unlike static text, it’s eye-catching and, dare I say, fun as we swipe over a part of the email to get a “peek under the hood.” It’s a small form of interactivity, but I’ve never received an email with a similar feature.

The header also does a great job of explicitly stating what the email is about, leaving no room for confusion.

Why I like this email

The animation is subtle and is done in a way that enhances the body of the email. Even better, it works well with the email’s design, creating a fitting but contrasting focal point before diving into the rest of the email copy.

7. Attic

Email Marketing Campaign Example: Loft – "Happy inbox, happy life"

Marketing Campaign: Email Settings

This email from Loft shows that Loft understands consumers’ busy, crowded, mixed-value inboxes.

It wants to make sure you get emails you actually want to open and prompts you to update your settings to provide a more personalized experience.

Why I like this email

This is a customer-focused email that effectively makes the recipient feel like their likes, dislikes, and opinions matter. It focuses on customer needs and takes a humorous approach with the slogan “Happy Inbox, Happy Life”.

Paired with a low-friction CTA, the copy is simple and effective.

8. Unusual goods

Best examples of email marketing campaigns: unusual goods

source

Marketing campaign: advertising

You’ve heard it a million times (and probably a few thousand times from us…): you want to create a sense of urgency with your calls to action because that’s what gets a lead to take action, right?

Why I like this email

I think this email from UncommonGoods skillfully creates a sense of urgency by focusing on the value of taking action now, but in a more pleasant and less demanding way.

Instead of saying, “Order your Christmas presents NOW!” the email says, “Now is your chance to snag this year’s gifts before they’re gone for good.”

I don’t mind if I do. Thank you for reminding me before it’s too late – I never want to be the person who says, “I gave you a gift, but it’s not here yet…”

9. DAVIDSTEA

Best Email Marketing Campaign Examples: Davidstea

source

Marketing campaign: customer satisfaction

I’ve always appreciated DAVIDsTEA’s email marketing and they continually deliver results, especially with this cheeky re-engagement campaign.

Every element, from the header to the chipmunk image to the friendly text, works together to create an unobtrusive advertising campaign.

Why I like this email

This email is just as enjoyable as the real drink.

It is highly personalized and contains information about the reader’s personalized tea profile. The copy is also bursting with friendly individualization. It’s relatable and reads like it’s coming from a friend, which helps elicit a positive reaction.

10. Harpoon Brewery

Email Marketing Campaign Example: Harpoon Brewery – "Happy birthday Carly!"

Marketing campaign: customer satisfaction

Carly Stec (my colleague) shared this email with me from her friends at Harpoon. It was thoughtful, wasn’t it? In the age of email automation, email campaigns can easily seem a little robotic.

And while I’m sure this email was indeed automated, it feels human. It’s simple, timely, and reads like it came from a friend, which is why it’s so effective.

Why I like this email

Personalization is the key factor in this email. From the time (birthday) to the personalized salutation, this email was sent to the right person at the right time. I also like the image of the team, which makes it even more personal.

If you want to strengthen your relationship with your existing customers, consider setting up a quick email like this to let them know you’re thinking about them.

11. Buoy

Join the Tobeseen movement

source

Marketing campaign: advertising

“We need your help.”

That’s pretty powerful, don’t you think?

Buoy, a water infusion product company, uses urgency and positioning to:

  • Get us as readers to act on our altruistic values
  • Align our philanthropic goals with the company’s mission
  • Take actions that benefit us and the community the company seeks to serve

Why I like this email

42% of consumers say they are more likely to purchase a product if a brand is committed to diversity and inclusion (a 17% increase compared to last year). Therefore, it is now more important than ever to consumers that the companies they buy from are committed to social responsibility.

Invoking this consumer value is a great way to inspire customers to take action alongside your company to support an important cause. People want to be part of something that makes a difference, and this email is designed to motivate them.

12. J.Crew Factory

Email Marketing Campaign Example: J.Crew Factory - "If your packaging looks like this, you might want to get a gift card"

Marketing campaign: advertising

I can’t wrap a gift to save my life, so I always reach for a fun gift bag and mountains of tissue paper.

J.Crew Factory understands this struggle and created the email above to let me and the rest of the community unable to complete Pinterest-worthy packaging jobs know that we have other options: gift cards.

Email does a great job of lowering the barrier to purchase in two ways:

  1. Tell me about the two different ways to pick up a gift card (in store or online).
  2. A map to the nearest store location if I decide to visit in person.

Both inclusions are consistent with the overall intent of the email: reduce stress.

Why I like this email

J.Crew combines humor with a low-stress, low-friction solution to the gift-giving struggles many people have. It also lowers any barriers to purchase by laying out my options in the email so I don’t have to do any further research.

I also love the image of a poorly wrapped gift, showing how much easier it is to buy a gift card – no wrapping required.

13. Charity: Water

Email Marketing Campaign Example: Charity.water - "Progress update"

Marketing campaign: engagement

It’s easy to forget that transactional emails are still a form of email marketing.

These are automated emails that you receive after you take an action with a company, such as filling out a form or purchasing a product. Often these are text-only emails that marketers create and then forget about.

Many charities don’t tell you how your funds or donations are performing after you take action. However, Charity: Water takes a different approach and uses automated emails to show donors how their money is making an impact over time.

Why I like this email

The project timeline and accompanying spreadsheet are a unique opportunity for charitable giving: Water keeps audiences engaged and shows the impact of their actions on the organization and the community it serves.

The email stays top of mind and increases future participation.

We spend one an average of 9 seconds Read branded emails, so for fast browsers we don’t even have to read the entire email – we immediately know where we are in the entire process so we can move on to other things in our inbox.

14. Uber

Best examples of email marketing campaigns: uber

Marketing campaign: engagement

The beauty of Uber’s emails is their simplicity. Email subscribers are alerted to offers and promotions with emails like this one.

I like how short the first description is and how it’s paired with a very clear CTA – perfect for users who quickly skim the email.

If you’d like to learn more about the offer, the header is followed by a more detailed (but still pleasingly simple) explanation of the simplicity and benefits of the Uber Rent Valet promotion.

Why I like this email

All communications and marketing assets tell a brand’s story – and brand consistency is one of Uber’s tactics to gain brand loyalty.

This email features the usual Uber colors and imagery while making the value proposition clear.

I also like how consistent the design of Uber’s emails is with the brand. Like the app, website, social media photos and other visual trademarks, the emails are represented by the black and white palette and custom font.

15. TheSkimm

Best examples of email marketing campaigns: theskimm

source

Marketing campaign: customer satisfaction

I love TheSkimm’s daily newsletter – especially its clean design and short, concise paragraphs. But newsletters aren’t TheSkimm’s only strength when it comes to email.

This subscriber engagement email rewards a subscriber for being subscribed over several years.

This includes the date of registration, the number of mornings spent together and the time spent reading the newsletter – we’re talking about a high level of personalization!

Why I like this email

It’s fun to receive emails triggered by milestones like anniversaries and birthdays – who doesn’t love celebrating a special occasion?

The great thing about anniversary emails in particular is that they are suitable for a wide range of senders. If your company stores subscriber data, you can easily customize the email to each subscriber using the data you already have.

16. Money from mom and dad

Email Marketing Campaign Example: Mommy and Daddy Money – "can you help me quickly?"

Marketing campaign: questionnaire

Do you think you know everything about the people who read your marketing emails? How much of what you “know” about them is based on assumptions?

The strongest buyer personas are based on insights you gain from your actual readership through surveys, interviews, etc. – in addition to market research.

That’s exactly what Matt Becker from Mom and Dad Money does – and he does it very, very well.

The image above is an example of an email that Lindsay Kolowich Cox, former marketing manager at HubSpot, received from the brand. It’s nothing special in terms of design – but that’s exactly the point.

It reads like an email from a friend or colleague asking for a quick favor.

Why I like this email

Not only was that first email great, Matt actually responded to Kolowich Coxs’ responses – and his response was even better.

She said:

“A few days after answering the questionnaire, I received a long and detailed personal email from Matt thanking me for completing the questionnaire and offering me a ton of helpful advice and links to resources specific to my answers were tailored. I was very impressed by his business acumen, his communication skills and his obvious commitment to his readers.”

17. Birchwood box

Email Marketing Campaign Example: Birchbox - "Oops!"

Marketing campaign: advertising

The email subject line from beauty product subscription service Birchbox reached my colleague Pam Vaughan Click.

It said: “We forgot something in your February box!” If you read the email copy below, of course Birchbox didn’t forget to put the discount code in their box – but it was certainly a clever way to get their attention to excite.

Why I like this email

This is an excellent email for a co-marketing partnership.

As it turns out, the discount code was actually a bonus promotion for Rent the Runway, a clothing rental company that likely fits the interest profile of most Birchbox customers – which certainly didn’t disappoint.

It caught her attention and gave her unexpected joy. I also like how straightforward it is – the message is mostly text, so it feels like you’re getting an email from a friend.

18. Postmates

Email campaign example: Animated Nachos GIF

Email Campaign Example: Postmates - "What do you call a tortilla chip that works? A macho nacho."

Marketing campaign: advertising

I have to say, I’m a fan of GIFs. They’re easy to consume, eye-catching, and have an emotional impact – like the funny GIF in one of Postmates’ emails, which is not only beautiful to look at, but also makes you crave delicious Chipotle.

You too can use animated GIFs in your marketing to display a funny header, draw people’s attention to a specific part of the email, or show your products and services in action.

Why I like this email

It centers the product in a fun and attractive way. It also immediately catches my eye because it differentiates the message from others in my inbox.

19. Dropbox

Best Examples of Email Marketing Campaigns: Dropbox

source

Marketing campaign: re-engagement

You might think it would be difficult to like an email from a company whose product you haven’t used yet.

But Dropbox has found a way to enable the “Try one of our products!” feature. Emails professionally, politely, and actionably thanks to an unmissable call-to-action and instant links to template libraries.

Why I like this email

In this email, the recipient gets a glimpse of what they’re missing by not using Dropbox Paper – templates and documents they could customize right away.

Plus, the email stays short and sweet, emphasizing the message that Dropbox didn’t want to get involved – it just wants to remind the recipient that Dropbox Paper exists and why it might be helpful.

Dropbox also uses a simple and easy-to-use grid layout to demonstrate its product as a diverse solution.

When sending these types of emails, you can add an incentive for recipients to try one of your specific products, such as a limited-time coupon or free trial.

20. Interior design by InVision

The best examples of email marketing campaigns: invision

source

Marketing campaign: newsletter

Every week the folks at InVision send out a roundup of their best blog content, their favorite design links of the week, and a new chance to win a free t-shirt. (Seriously. They give away a new design every week.)

Sometimes there are fun survey questions that you can crowdsource for your blog. For example, for one week, subscribers were asked what they would do if the Internet didn’t exist.

Why I like this email

Not only does InVision’s newsletter have a great mix of content, but I also like the good balance of images and text that makes it easy to read and mobile friendly.

Balance is especially important because the newsletters are so long. When it’s so text-heavy, the risk of losing attention increases significantly.

I also like the clever copy of the call-to-action buttons.

21. Mob Kitchen

Best Examples of Email Marketing Campaigns: Mob Kitchen

source

Marketing campaign: newsletter

Mob Kitchen’s Weekly Mob newsletter has a great email layout. Each message contains three different sections: one for ingredients, one for instructions, and one for additional recipes.

Readers don’t have to go searching to find the most interesting part of their blog posts; They probably know exactly where to look after receiving just one or two emails.

Why I like this email

The eye-catching images and user-friendly design make Mob Kitchen’s newsletter a winner, but I especially love the invitation to provide feedback on the content itself.

Sometimes the most valuable source of information is not an A/B test, but your own subscriber pool.

22. Cuisinart

Best email marketing campaign examples: cuisinart

source

Marketing Campaign: Email Settings

“Pssst…we have a question for you.” That was the subject line of this automated unsubscribe email from Cuisinart. I love the simple, guilt-free messaging here, from the adorable egg images to the awesome CTA button text.

Not only is the design and copy top notch, but I commend the folks at Cuisinart for sending out automated unsubscribe emails in the first place.

It’s smart to purge your subscriber lists of people who don’t open your email lists because low open rates can seriously impact email deliverability.

Why I like this email

The button copy is a pattern interrupt that prompts recipients to pause and consider what action they want to take: adjust their preferences or opt out completely.

Giving your subscribers this choice creates a wonderful experience for those who want to subscribe and those who want to unsubscribe.

23. Paperless mail

Best examples of email marketing campaigns: paperless mail

source

Marketing campaign: advertising

When you think of “holiday email marketing,” you might immediately think of Christmas, but there are other holidays scattered throughout the rest of the year that you can create campaigns around.

Download these email marketing planning templates to stay organized all year long.

Take this email from Paperless Post for example. I love the caption: “Stop and Smell the Rosé” (in honor of National Rosé Day). The subheading then asks the recipient to invite friends and colleagues for a drink using paperless mail.

Beneath this copy, the simple grid design is both easy to scan and very visually appealing. Each button is a CTA in itself – click on one and you will be taken to a purchase page.

Why I like this email

This email sets a positive mood by encouraging the recipient to do something they may have forgotten: invite colleagues out for drinks on a holiday that isn’t celebrated very often.

This provides a solution and allows the recipient to build camaraderie with their colleagues.

24. Luminary

Best Email Marketing Campaign Examples: Luminary

source

Marketing campaign: engagement

Many of us tend to listen to podcast episodes of the same few shows instead of branching out.

Luminary, an on-demand podcast app, knows this, and their “Find Your New Favorite” email wants us to discover (and subscribe to) its other content — and many probably would without that email encouragement don’t do it.

This email makes excellent use of responsive design. Scrolling and clicking isn’t too difficult, and the podcast rows are large enough for users on mobile to thumb-tap.

It’s not pictured, but the CTA at the bottom of the email labeled “Browse Originals” prompts you to open the app on your phone, making it easy to get started right away.

Why I like this email

As humans, we tend to crave personalized experiences. So when emails look like they were created specifically for you, you feel special—you’re not just getting what everyone else is getting.

You may even feel like the company sending you the email knows you in some way, cares about your preferences, and makes you happy.

25.RCN

Email Marketing Example: RCN - "RCN is preparing for Winter Storm Quinn"

Marketing campaign: update

Internet providers and bad weather are natural enemies. You might think that telecommunications companies wouldn’t want to draw attention to storm-related power outages – the only thing that triggers customer impatience.

Then there is RCN.

RCN, a cable and wireless internet service, turned this email marketing campaign into a weather forecast just for its customers.

Through this “Storm Update,” the company got ahead of an event that threatened its service while allowing its users to get the weather updates they need from their Wi-Fi provider.

The email even mentions personal safety – a nice gesture of care that comes with the promise of responsive service.

Why I like this email

It only offers an update. No advertising, no sales. The recipient’s well-being is paramount and they place expectations on something that may be directly important to them.

At the end of the email, RCN also highlighted its social media channels and advised customers of another way to stay informed of network outages on channels they may check more often than email.

26. Sporting greens

Best Email Marketing Campaign Examples: Athletic Greens

source

Marketing campaign: newsletter

I am a huge advocate of thought leadership. Some of the best companies gain customer loyalty by becoming the go-to source for expertise on a specific topic.

“Let the expert tell you…”

That’s the subject line of this email from Athletic Greens, before interesting answers about the benefits of the product.

It answers all of a potential customer’s questions about why Athletic Greens work – and whether it’s worth adding to your routine. At the end it includes a direct quote from Athletic Green’s nutritionist.

Why I like this email

This email leverages a professional’s expertise to sell the product while answering critical questions potential buyers may have before purchasing.

27. Your first $100,000

Marketing Email Campaigns: Your First $100,000

Marketing campaign: advertising

This email marketing campaign is awesome for so many reasons.

The list format, while long, works beautifully in this email from the financial education brand Your first $100,000.

First you will be attracted by the recommendation above; You will then be presented with a list of reasons why you should attend the business bootcamp. It is emphasized that the course is now 50% cheaper.

Further down in the email, the details of the course are laid out so potential students get a breakdown of what they can learn. The language is friendly, concise and convincing.

Why I like this email

The email uses a friendly tone and a sense of urgency to entice customers to purchase the course. It uses the power of social proof to create an additional layer of credibility.

28. Brooks Sports

Best Email Marketing Campaign Examples: Brooks Sports

Marketing campaign: engagement

When Desiree Linden won the Boston Marathon, she became the first American woman to win the race in more than 30 years.

For their footwear and apparel sponsor Brooks Sports, it was an opportunity to celebrate their long partnership. The resulting email campaign focuses almost exclusively on the Olympic marathon runner’s amazing achievements.

Why I like this email

Email campaigns like these allow companies to demonstrate their loyalty and add value to the products their best users have chosen. Not pictured is a blue CTA button at the bottom of the email that says “Check out Desiree’s favorite gear.”

After Desiree’s victory, everyone knew her name. Brooks Sports struck while the iron was still hot, with a proud email that was sure to be opened and forwarded.

What better product to draw attention to than the clothing worn by one of America’s legends?

29.Etsy

Best examples of email marketing campaigns: etsy

source

Marketing campaign: advertising

I love this email from Etsy. Not only is the design a real eye-catcher – without appearing overloaded – but the household items are also homemade. Etsy sells goods featuring designs from artists around the world.

This represents a unique opportunity to showcase popular products across the Etsy community.

This example shows creations from several Etsy shops. When these creators see Etsy showcasing their content, they are more likely to forward the email to friends and colleagues.

Why I like this email

The email lets the items speak for themselves and presents them as art rather than products. We also love the consistent aesthetic of the featured Etsy shops.

In addition to linking to products from various Etsy shops, the email campaign includes a time-bound call-to-action (“Shop the last hours”) and several eye-catching discounts.

That’s why Etsy customers are likely to spend money – and open other emails in this campaign to find more ways to “save on top favorites.”

30. Spotify

Best Examples of Email Marketing Campaigns: Spotify

source

Spotify is the king of personalization (Spotify Wrapped, anyone?), and this email is no exception. The subject line – “Olivia Rodrigo made you special” – is already attracting clicks because it is exclusive to her proven top fans.

The offer to purchase a cassette of the album is a tribute to the nostalgic feelings that Olivia Rodrigo expresses in her songs, as well as recent trends on TikTok and Instagram.

Why I like this email

From the images to the call-to-action, this email is good at generating purchases. I also love the color palette, which deviates from Spotify branding just to highlight the colors of the album.

This way it feels like you are receiving an email from Olivio Rodrigo’s team and not from a third party.

I just looked through great examples of companies implementing traditional marketing practices in unique ways.

Not only do you need to follow best practices when it comes to marketing emails, but every email you send from your work email address can be optimized for conversion.

1. Outline your goals.

As with all marketing efforts, the first step is to decide on the outcome you want. Need to tidy up your list? Promote a new product?

Different campaigns require different tactics. So, determining the purpose of your campaign will help you set the goals you want to achieve.

2. Plan with your audience in mind.

The key to a great email marketing campaign is understanding your audience and why they subscribe to your emails. Knowing this will help you share content with them that directly matches their interests.

If you have a wide range of subscribers with different interests, I recommend using email segmentation and personalization to ensure you are delivering the right content to the right people at the right time.

3. Create a campaign schedule.

Another crucial step is creating a timeline. If you are running a seasonal campaign, you are only allowed to send 1-2 emails. But a long-term, top-of-mind nurturing campaign, such as building hype for a new product launch, will involve much more than two emails.

Tailor the length of your email sequences (including follow-ups) to the length of the buying cycle and the stage the persona is at in the buyer’s journey.

4. Write high-quality email copy.

In most cases, it’s an engaging subject line that entices me to click on an email, even if it’s from a brand or sender I don’t normally pay attention to.

For this reason, creating good subject lines and email copy in general (including multimedia elements) is a central part of the email marketing process.

This can mean the difference between great open rates and your emails remaining unopened in your inbox. AI tools like ours Email Author And Campaign Assistanthelp you quickly write (and design) email marketing campaigns.

5. Use email builder tools.

Once you’ve completed the steps above, the easiest way to run your campaign is to use email builder software.

This software allows you to create, optimize and personalize your email campaigns, often without any technical or graphic design experience.

Depending on your needs, you have several options including HubSpot, Pabbly email marketing, Constant contact, MailChimp, or other alternatives.

6. Keep an eye on your metrics.

Take notes during the campaign. Are your open and click rates meeting your expectations? Are you on track to achieve your goals with the campaign?

Your data will tell you exactly what works and what doesn’t, leading to more effective campaigns in the future.
