A queer family is born
We don’t often host old school friends Queer Money® from our pre-Debt Free Guys days, but we asked our friends Jonathan and Christopher to share their compelling story about growing their queer family. Jonathan and Christopher met in Orlando ten years ago, moved to Colorado five years ago and married four years ago. From the moment they knew they wanted to spend their lives together, they knew they wanted to share their lives with a child.
Jonathan and Christopher talk about how they lived in a one-bedroom apartment for several years, worked several jobs, bought a house (and a dog, apparently), and focused their lives on taking care of their future child. They share how they prepared financially for legal and adoption costs, including structuring their accounts and automatically saving for these expenses.
They share great resources, like their adoption agencies and social service agencies that specialize in LGBT families, to support the adoption process. They also share how they found grants, including specific LGBT adoption grants, to subsidize their adoption costs.
