The best tips and care products for the bottom
When you’re doing it right with the right man, there’s little better than hitting rock bottom. But to do it right, you also have to pay attention to your butt.
Being an open and proud ass
We read and hear about bottom shaming quite often in the gay community. But to be honest, we have never experienced it ourselves. Maybe this is because we are not ashamed of what gives us sexual pleasure.
We’ve dealt with enough unwarranted shame. As two grown gay men, we own and enjoy our sex lives. Sex between or among gay men is just as beautiful as sex between anyone else.
One of us is mostly up and the other is mostly down, which works perfectly for us. But whatever your preference and dynamic, enjoy it. Love it and do it as often as you like.
It’s your life and sex is one of life’s most beautiful gifts. If you’re lucky enough to be gay and even luckier enough to enjoy the feeling of having another man inside you, that’s great for you and the man or men you have sex with.
There is no bottom shaming here, but there are a few things you should know about bottoms.
10 tips for bottoming
We love making love to each other. There is simply nothing better than being so close and intimate with our favorite man in the world. As much and as often as we enjoy sex, anal sex usually involves a little more work.
There are times when we plan to have sex, like a play date as we call it. This is either an afternoon or evening for which we have reserved a few hours of fun. This is usually easier to prepare than the soil.
Sometimes the urges overwhelm us and we need them, whether planned or not.
Whether your anal sex is planned or spontaneous, there is a way to always be ready or almost ready.
1. Know your HIV status
Our first tip for hitting rock bottom (and peak) is to know your HIV status and the HIV status of the man or men you’re having sex with.
Most large cities and even many smaller cities offer free clinics. You can also buy one Quick self-test at your local pharmacy and get your status through a gum swab in about 20 minutes. Or you can order one Mail-in self-testst using the needle stitch method. Of course the latter takes longer.
Each option has its pros and cons, but knowing your HIV status and the HIV status of your partners is incredibly helpful. Talking openly and honestly about your HIV status can help you appropriately plan for safe and enjoyable sex.
We have partnered with PrEP a few years ago and have since become convinced that all gay men, especially bareback men, should use PrEP TasP.
Both PrEP and TasP help fight the spread of HIV.
2. Use condoms
What is worrying is that condoms are becoming obsolete with the success of PrEP and TasP. The fact is that neither PrEP nor TasP offers a 100% guarantee of preventing HIV infection. There are also other sexually transmitted diseases that we can catch through unprotected sex.
To be fair, we don’t use condoms between each other as we have been together for over 18 years and represent each other’s entire sex lives at this point. If you are not in a monogamous relationship or are planning a playdate or marathon day with others, please, please, please use condoms, even if you use PrEP or TasP.
It seems that gay porn has stopped its performers using condoms, but porn is not real life.
3. Eat a diet rich in fiber
Look, you should definitely eat a high-fiber diet. Better soil is just the icing on the cake (or salad) of a high-fiber diet.
A high-fiber diet has been shown to help lower cholesterol, lower blood sugar levels, maintain a healthy weight, and live longer. Those are enough reasons.
A high-fiber diet also helps maintain a healthy gut and ensures regular and predictable bowel movements #2. This helps avoid surprises during anal sex.
4. Try supplements
They’re not for every man, but fiber supplements help many bottoms at least always – almost always – be ready for the bottom. We are big fans of this Purely for men.
We have been using Pure for Men for years and have recommended it to friends and strangers alike. It has increased our confidence during anal sex and allows us to have more unplanned butt sex.
Every body is different, so what works for us may not work for you. Other supplements may be better for you, or supplements may not work for you at all.
If you’re trying a fiber supplement, start by following the instructions that come with your supplements.
So we’ve heard and read about men taking drastic measures with diarrhea treatments to prepare for the bottom. This is usually the case when they plan marathon sex or go to a bathhouse or sex party. We avoid and do not recommend diarrhea treatments.
Diarrhea medications can increase the risk of dehydration, which can have serious health consequences. Not to mention, it can harm your stomach.
If you are planning marathon sex, a trip to the bathhouse, or a sex party, follow the other instructions in this article and maybe reduce your food intake a little before starting sex and you will be fine.
5. Clean before putting on
When we were younger and saw women in movies telling their partners they had to “freshen up” in the bathroom before sex, we didn’t quite know what the hell they all had to do.
Now we know!
Whether for a planned play date or spontaneous morning sex – we love morning sex – a quick trip to the bathroom to “freshen up” is always in order.
At the very least, you should wash your abdomen with soap and water. Remember to also prick some soap and water into your hole with your index finger. That’s often all we have to do for spontaneous sex because we take it Purely for men.
If you are not using Pure for Men or are not sure whether your bowels are empty, you should shower. Unless you’re planning on marathon sex, showering with a simple handheld showerhead made of rubber and room temperature bottled water is fine. This is the rubber shower we use.
If you’re planning marathon sex, take your time in the shower. The best method for this is a slow drip from a hot water bottle, again just room temperature mineral water. This is our hot water bottle.
6. Practice bottoming either alone or with someone else
The first time you get down on the floor can be a little stressful, as can the first time you do anything sexual. And to be fair, most of us try bottoming for the first time because we get caught up in a moment and are horny.
But practicing especially before the first time can be very helpful and help you increase your confidence.
Your finger is a good place to start with this too. Then you should try a small or medium-sized dildo. Here are good dildos to start with.
Be gentle with yourself and take your time. Even if it’s just you, it should still feel comfortable. If you want the experience of giving up some control without necessarily having sex, let your partner take control of the dildo. This can be very pleasurable for both of you in very different ways.
7. Use lubricant (plenty)
Whether it’s your first time, your millionth time, your finger or a hung man, use lube.
The anus does not produce its own lubricant and the anal wall can tear easily. For this reason, every time you have sex, you should take it slow and use a good amount of lube.
We started using gun oil many years ago when a friend started working for the gun oil manufacturer and we have never changed. Our preferred lubricant is this water-based gun oil.
It doesn’t stick, is easy to clean and none of us have an allergic reaction. The main difference between water-based and oil-based lubricants is that oil-based lubricants often last longer and are often recommended when using anal toys. For us, on the other hand, if what we’re using, a penis or a toy, feels dry, we simply apply more gun oil. Another trick is to add some water.
8. Know your limits
As with anything sexual, you want to know your boundaries. For this reason, it’s a good idea to practice on yourself first.
What are you willing to do and not do sexually? How rough do you feel during anal sex? If you play primarily with toys, but also with bigger guys, how much are you willing to put into it?
The best way to answer these questions is to practice a little on your own and perhaps even practice with a partner for a session or two.
9. Communicate your boundaries
Ultimately, the best sex is with the person or people you can truly trust. That’s a big reason why we still really enjoy having sex with each other even after 18 years.
We trust each other 100% and when we try something different, we know we can trust the other person to slow down or stop when we ask. However, we usually start sex with the butt on top and facing upwards. This gives control to the buttocks and gives both the internal and external sphincters time to relax. Once this happens, the fun really begins.
No matter how aggressive or playful you and your partner(s) may be, always communicate your boundaries.
10. Exercise your anus
A bottom’s job is never done. Never. For your pleasure and the pleasure of the men you have sex with, exercise your anus regularly.
Your anus has two rings, your internal and external sphincters. Your internal sphincter is an involuntary muscle and is closed except when you go to the bathroom to relieve strain on your bowels. Your external sphincter is a voluntary muscle.
There are many reasons why your sphincters can become weak, not just anal sex – it’s not a gay problem. As with any muscle, exercise can help it stay stronger, and stronger anal sphincters can bring more pleasure to you and your partners, especially if you learn to better control your external sphincter.
To train these muscles, contract your sphincter to 50% and 100% several times a day, 5 to 10 times each. This exercise is called Kegels. Kegel training can be done sitting or standing – you can literally do it almost any time and will help keep your muscles in tip-top shape for anal sex.
To gain better control of your anal muscles during sex, do the same Kegel exercises with either a penis or a dildo inside you. This requires a different level of concentration and can give you more control during sex (i.e., give your partners more pleasure).
