On October 3, 2024 I gave a talk at BrightonSEO titled Expand and expand your SEO knowledge through experimentation and side hustles. In this talk, I talked about how I’ve tackled various side projects over the years that have helped me experiment with my SEO skills and incorporate what I’ve learned from these projects back into my day-to-day work as an SEO allow.
Many people who truly improve their SEO skills do so through experimentation and testing. It’s more important now than ever to understand more than just SEO, and without “getting your hands dirty,” your knowledge may only reach a certain level – a level where someone who has experimented more will overtake you and roll will secure that you could have won.
Experimentation is best done away from client work to ensure nothing is done to their detriment, and side hustling is the best way to do this! Don’t just build a website – go out and study the source code, change things and study the source code again to see its effects, use more diagnostic tools, and run more tests on smaller audiences .
Below is a list of links to things I mentioned in the talk, including a list of all the plugins I used my website I demonstrated that.
